The Shrewsbury-born 19-year-old made his bow in Sunday's 3-0 defeat at Swindon after being given his chance by manager Micky Mellon.

Lifelong fan Burton has been with Town since he was 10 and wanted a permanent memento of his special day.

He said: "Making your debut is one of the most memorable games of your career, so I'm going to get the shirt framed.

"I've been waiting for a jersey to call my debut shirt for a long time. I got it signed by all the lads and, hopefully, I'll get it framed and on the wall this summer.

"It's a lot different playing in the first team compared to playing reserve games and youth-team matches, but it's a club I've grown up watching so I want to do well. It was a great experience."

Burton, who has been an unused substitute 16 times this season, believes his patience has paid off after getting his big break in the final game of the season.

He said: "There are hundreds of days where you've got to train and this just shows you've got to keep going to the end because you never know, you might get your chance in the last game of the season.

"You've got to do everything you can right through the season and then you get rewarded."

As for his debut, it proved to be a family affair after being given advance notice. He said: "I got told two days before. Danny Coyne (goalkeeping coach) told me I was going to get my chance.

"I was happy and excited. It was a good experience. Quite a few people came to watch – my mom and dad, my girlfriend, my nan and my agent.

"It was good for my family to see my debut and nice to see them in the stand at the end."

Burton was one of two debutants with substitute Ethan Jones and they made up a trio of home-grown academy graduates with Dominic Smith.

He said|: "It was great to see Ethan make his debut and Dom and myself have come through the ranks since we were 10.

"We came through the youth team and lived with each other and we've both gone on to play for the team we support, so it's brilliant."
