Junior Brown swayed by Shrewsbury Town
Left-back Junior Brown admits the chance to continue working with manager Micky Mellon helped convince him to sign a new Shrewsbury Town contract.
Brown and goalkeeper Callum Burton penned new two-year deals yesterday, becoming the second and third of the six existing players offered terms to commit to the club.
Versatile former Crewe and Oxford man Brown and 19-year-old keeper Burton follow first-choice shot-stopper Jayson Leutwiler.
Brown, 27, worked with Mellon at Fleetwood before making the move to Shropshire last summer.
Brown told the club's website: "I know the gaffer well and I know what he is about and what he wants from his players and what he expects.
"I know he has faith and trust in me. To have that is always nice. It gives you a bit of confidence when you are playing that your manager has got faith in you and that can only bode well.
"It has taken a while but we have managed to get it all sorted and done and dusted. The main focus for me has been getting myself fit and ready to go.
"I am now going to enjoy the next couple of weeks before we are back for pre-season.
"The club are trying to do the best for themselves and players are trying to do the best for themselves so there is a bit of to and fro. In the end, you reach an agreement which is good."
After initially arriving as a winger on a free transfer from League Two Mansfield a year ago, Brown displaced fellow summer signing Mat Sadler at left-back.
He went on to make 40 appearances last season, including 31 in the league, to emerge as a Player of the Year contender.
But his campaign ended abruptly on April 2 when he damaged knee ligaments in the 5-1 home defeat to eventual champions Wigan.
He added: "I have been working hard towards the end of the season to get it right and I have done some extra over the off season and I am feeling fighting fit and ready to go."
