Shrewsbury Town fans fund hi-tech equipment
Shrewsbury Town fans have splashed out £8,000 funding hi-tech equipment which includes how the players' running compares to Olympic champion Usain Bolt.
The Super Blues supporters group have funded GPS tracking devices being used to monitor players' training in pre-season.
Super Blues organiser Chris Smith said: "We've asked if there are any projects we can provide fundraising for.
"We were approached by Chris Skitt (Town head physio) and this was a project we liked as the fans can see where the money goes."
Skitt also thanked the fans, saying: "It's an invaluable piece of kit and I'm very grateful for the Super Blues.
"It's been a massive addition and I just hope they see the benefits of the use."
The squad have welcomed the new equipment.
Skitt told the club's website: "I've managed to find some data for the likes of Usain Bolt and what speeds they commonly run at."
"We're able to set, say, Shaun Whalley a target to run as fast as him. I'd be really pleased if we could get him up to as quick as Usain Bolt!
"ut it's really in-depth and the analysis we can do is ever-lasting. It comes with heart rate monitors, so we can cross-match the scores for the heart rate against the distances covered.
"We can also use it for risk of injury as well. We'll analyse all parameters including speed, distance and intensity of running."
