Danny Coyne happy with Shrewsbury effort despite defeat

Shrewsbury Town temporary boss Danny Coyne sent his thanks to Salop players as they gave 100 per cent in defeat at Bradford City.

A sloppy first-half goal sent Salop behind as they struggled to get to grips with the confident Bantams in front of a boosted 17,000-plus crowd.

But Town improved vastly after the break and went close on a couple of occasions to drawing level. Coyne's side were the better team and began to worry the home crowd - who have had little to complain about all campaign.

But managerless Salop had lots to be proud of, according to their boss, but chiefly their reaction after the break.

"I couldn't have asked any more effort from the lads, they were great and put everything on the pitch for me and I thank them for that," said Coyne.

"We came in half-time, spoke about all things we weren't doing, came out and tried to put it right, but unfortunately we couldn't get the goal.

"Sometimes that happens (their goal), but you've got to dust yourselves down straight away - which they did - you have to take stock and be calm, get yourselves back into the game."

Bradford hit a second in the dying moments after eye-catching sub Antoni Sarcevic slipped and brought down Danny Devine.

Coyne thought the final scoreline was unfair on his charges, but admitted he was dispirited with how they started the Valley Parade clash.

He added: "It's just a killer blow when you get done in the last minute with a lad slipping over in the box.

"We had a plan at the start of the game and we didn't stick to what we said we'd do.

"It was disappointing to go in a goal down when we know we could've prevented it.

"In the second-half we did what we said we'd do and I thought we were a lot better, fighting for everything and had better chances."
