Shrewsbury Town's new Sundorne Castle training complex has begun to take shape as work stepped up a gear at the site.

The club are aiming for their future Newport Road base to be ready for action within a couple of months and hope that the main building's shell will be in place by the middle of this week.

The grass surface appeared in pristine condition – with drainage clearly serving its purpose despite challenging conditions – and the site comes with enough space for three pitches.

The building's shell, which began its transportation from Greenhous Meadow to Sundorne Castle yesterday and is aimed to be completed this afternoon, will be kitted out and turned into a suitable modern complex featuring offices, changing rooms, restaurant and gymnasiums.

"It's a good start, obviously it doesn't look much at the moment but once we get all of the units in over the next 48 or 72 hours then the building will start to take shape," said Town chief executive Brian Caldwell.

"It's good to finally see them coming here and to see what we're trying to build for the future.

"I don't like to put timescales on it but hopefully the early part of the year, once we have the buildings up and fitted out.

"It's hopefully the first step in a good investment for the football club."
