Fantastic Shrewsbury Town fans can be the difference in surviving, insists Sadler
Mat Sadler has issued one final rally cry to 'fantastic' Town supporters, claiming they can play a massive part in securing survival.
With just two games of the season to play, beginning with Saturday's last Greenhous Meadow clash against high-flying Southend, Shrewsbury still have work to do to secure their League One status.
But Sadler, who notched a crucial leveller at Northampton on Monday, hailed the renewed enthusiasm from the stands and explained his gratitude, insisting that their belief can be the difference.
"The fans filled the whole away end out on Monday, if I'd have scored a winner I'd have been in there!" Said the 32-year-old."They were sucking the ball in.
"They've been right behind us for the last month or so and it can't be understated how much that helps.
"I hope it can be exactly the same on Saturday against Southend in what is a crunch game – they're fantastic."
While Paul Hurst's side weren't at their best in the previous home game against Walsall on Good Friday, the fans helped galvanise the team, according to Sadler.
"They play a massive part, it can't be understated," he added.
"There were a few lulls on the pitch against Walsall but there certainly wasn't off the pitch, we could tell they were right behind us and willing us on.
"I can't stress how much a positive atmosphere helps, they've been such a benefit to us."
Crowds have steadily improved since Hurst's October appointment and the boss led his side to a run of just one home defeat in 12.
But an untimely run of four straight loses looked to have plunged Town back into danger.
"The fans are right behind us, every team goes through rough spells of four or five games when they don't win, even teams at the top.
"Unfortunately because we didn't have the points earlier in the season it was highlighted more for us.
"Hopefully they'll be right behind us again and create a real carnival atmosphere again."
