Louis Dodds: Shrewsbury Town move wasn’t a sideways step

Louis Dodds believes a successful transfer window under Paul Hurst can prove his move from rivals Port Vale wasn’t a sidewards step.

Town’s No.10, who was top scorer with 10 goals, believes fans will see a true Hurst side from the beginning of next season as the boss has the chance to assemble a squad of his own.

The 30-year-old added that he hoped Shrewsbury would be able to stabilise this summer.

Dodds, who ended an eight-year spell at Vale Park last summer for a short move to Greenhous Meadow, said: “He’s made no secret that it’s not his squad and it’s not the players that he’s signed. I think there’ll be a few out as well as coming in.

“It’ll be an interesting summer and hopefully be one that stabilises the football side of Shrewsbury because there’s been a lot of overhauls in the last few transfer windows and hopefully this will be the last one before it calms down a bit.”

The attacking schemer, whose former side were relegated to League Two, said the move wasn’t one he took lightly.

He added: “When you go to a new club it doesn’t happen for everyone. I could’ve stayed at Vale, had a testimonial and been all cushy but I came out my comfort zone. I was probably disappointed I only got 10 goals, obviously I’m happy to be top goalscorer and I’ll be looking to try and do that next year.

“I didn’t do it (move) for a sidewards step, I saw it as a progressive one, so it has been a bit frustrating.

“But if the new gaffer gets the players he wants in and we have a good pre-season then hopefully it’ll be a lot better next season.”
