Shrewsbury Town to host Wolves and Burton in pre-season
Boss Paul Hurst has hailed Shrewsbury Town’s pre-season schedule but joked: “We might not get a win!”
Town have today confirmed summer fixtures against both Burton Albion and Wolves at Greenhous Meadow.
Hurst’s team, who are already scheduled to host Villa on Saturday July 15, will also entertain Wolves on Saturday, July 22, before the Brewers visit the following weekend, on Saturday, July 29 (all kick-offs 3pm).
And Hurst joked: “We might not get a win in pre-season, though hopefully we will when the season kicks-off.
“In my experience as a player I wanted to play in good games and these certainly tick that box.”
Hurst believes the games will provide his team with the right kind of test, during what will be his first pre-season in charge of the club.
He added: “It’s not about results. It’s nice if you get a win – but I have been involved in pre-season when we have won every game and then drawn the opening game of the campaign.
“I have been in others when we were useless and won the opening league game 6-1.
“It is about fitness. There will be other things we will be looking at, but it is mainly to try and get up to speed.
“With these games we will hopefully get a few fans in, a few travelling supporters too. But we will be tested. There is no value in playing a non-League team and winning 15-0. There is no value in that.
“We have picked difficult games but that should help us. Defensively, we will be tested.”
