Five Shrewsbury Town scholars sign first pro deals
Five Shrewsbury Town youngsters have signed their first professional deals with the club.
Defenders Ryan Sears and Callum Roberts, midfielders Chris Gallagher and George Hughes and forward John McAtee were all offered contracts at the end of the season at the same time that five other scholars were released.
Academy manager Andy Jones insisted he was always confident the quintet would put pen to paper.
“They are five good lads and it’s great news for them and great news for the club,” he said.
“The lads have gone away and these things take a bit of a time.
“This is what they have been dreaming about and they have to turn it into reality now. They must keep working hard and learn quickly.
“This is where they want to be and they want to prove themselves in this team. I’m looking forward to seeing how they improve in a different environment.”
First-year scholar Ryan Barnett was offered his first professional contract back in February, signing a two-and-a half-year deal.
