The Shrewsbury boss handed both the armband last season with former skipper Adam El-Abd frozen out.

Sadler, 32, is seen as an integral part of the Town dressing room and link between players and staff and will hold the club title, while midfielder Ogogo will wear the armband – if fit and playing – on matchdays.

“Abs will be the captain if he’s in the team. No question on that, Sads will be club captain,” Hurst said.

“It (the decision) was from last season really.Off the pitch Sads is fantastic for the group, all the things don’t matter in terms of what you see on the pitch, but for me they’re important.

“It sounds like you’re writing him off and he’s retired, but he’s an ambassador for the club.

“He organises the lads fantastically in the community, whether it’s going out for food or whatever, he has a great manner and is totally respected.”

Ogogo, 27, triggered an extension in his Town contract towards the end of last season, while Sadler also agreed fresh two-year terms this summer.

“Abs leads by example and has also shown he’s a better player than some people give him credit for,” said the boss on former Dagenham man Ogogo.

“He pulls people on pitch and gives instructions. They’ve both been here a while considering how many changes there has been.

“They’re two mature heads that benefit the group massively,” Hurst added.
