Paul Hurst content with Shrewsbury Town youngsters despite loss

Paul Hurst was satisfied to get minutes into younger members of his squad despite last night’s reversal at neighbours AFC Telford United.

Elliot Newby struck the only goal in a 1-0 win for the Bucks, where Shrewsbury featured a number of Hurst’s first-team squad, mixed with some first-year professionals. Hurst felt his side well below par at the New Bucks Head, and was content with the fitness levels Town showed, but was disappointed in a second defeat to Town’s rivals in his nine months at the helm.

“We wanted to win the game. That was the message when we did shape and in the dressing room before the game,” he said.

“So I’m not happy to lose the game, I’m not happy losing any games of football.

“But ultimately, in general, that was a very young group.

“I still believe if we’d have played to our best we’d have won the game.

“We started well but lost our way a little. They got the goal and it became more difficult.”
