The former Welsh international, who celebrated his birthday on Sunday, has also been given the shirt No.44 for tonight's Checkatrade Trophy clash at Coventry City.

His last competitive first-team appearance was in January 2012 for Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

On-loan Manchester United man Dean Henderson has been called up to the England under-21 squad for European Qualifiers on Friday and Tuesday, meaning he missed Town's trip to Gillingham in League One on Saturday.

And with Shaun Rowley on loan at National League North Tamworth, boss Paul Hurst has opted to include Coyne - who remains a registered squad player - in tonight's Trophy squad, though he is likely to start on the bench behind summer signing Craig MacGillivray.

Ex-Walsall man MacGillivray is expected to make his first competitive start for the club at the Ricoh Arena tonight and then be selected at Gillingham.

Coyne impressed Hurst in training games at the club's summer training camp in Portugal, going between the sticks after Rowley picked up an injury.
