We all wondered whether the fantastic run might come to an end on Saturday, and then on Tuesday night, but they keep going on, writes Bernard McNally.

I thought Saturday’s performance against Wigan Athletic, winning 1-0, was fantastic and they got the job done against Southend, winning 1-0 again.

My old manager when I was playing at West Bromwich Albion, Bobby Gould, used to say good teams win 1-0 and they are doing just that and churning out good results.

We all know it is a marathon, but they have started like an express train – and long may it continue.

They are surprising everybody, the players are young and hungry. And there is a nice blend in the Town midfield now.

Ben Godfrey has done a great job as the holder since coming in on loan from Norwich City, and then you have got Jon Nolan, who got the winner against the Shrimpers, and Abu Ogogo in there as well.

They work tremendously hard for each other. Jon has some great touches at times, and it is those little touches that end up doing a lot.

He will pivot and then slot through a ball to start an attack – he has a lot of ability.

Ogogo can really get about the pitch and then Godfrey is the one who screens the back four.

The two wingers – Alex Rodman and Shaun Whalley – are playing well and I think goalkeeper Dean Henderson has added a tremendous amount of confidence to the back four in front of him.

He is always organising and you can see why he has come through the ranks at Manchester United.

Paul Hurst has a good dilemma as, when everyone is fit, who is he going to pick?

Stefan Payne has rolled his ankle and James Bolton has a knee complaint and, of course, you do not want injuries, but Shrewsbury seem to have enough to cope.

There is strength in depth and it is looking very rosy at the moment.

There is a lot of positivity, and the great thing for me is they are keeping things tight at the back as well.

Teams look like they will really have to battle to score against Town – and that is how things should be.

Next up, on Saturday, is a trip up to Oldham Athletic, who are not in great form – one win, one draw, five losses.

Paul has said plenty of times that there is no room for complacency and I am sure they will want to go there, put them to the sword, and make it a new record in terms of league games unbeaten from the start of the season.

And when you are playing as they are, you want the games to come thick and fast.
