Paul Hurst: Bryn Morris brings unique qualities to Shrewsbury Town
Boss Paul Hurst believes the return of Bryn Morris from a knee injury will bring another dimension to Shrewsbury Town.
Central midfielder Morris, aged 21, has returned to training at the club’s Sundorne Castle facility after undergoing corrective surgery on the cartilage in his knee.
The injury was originally picked up in a 1-0 pre-season defeat at AFC Telford United and, although he was not expected to be involved against Blackburn Rovers today, he could be back out on the pitch within a week or two.
Hurst notes Morris has a fight on his hands to get back in the team, but the fact the former Middlesbrough man brings something different may help him force his way into the starting line-up.
“Bryn was very unfortunate. He got his way into the team for that opening day victory (at Northampton Town), did well, and is looking to really kick on in this season,” he said.
“Since then we have brought in Ben Godfrey and have been going well with Jon Nolan and Abu Ogogo in there – and Ebou Adams coming on and doing a job at times.
“There is a lot of competition in there, but Bryn is slightly different than all of them.”
He added: “If his standard is anything like what it has been back in training, then he’ll certainly be in my thoughts.
“He was very good, lacking a little bit of fitness, but he is naturally a fit boy which is pleasing.
“Hopefully he can really be in contention over these coming weeks.”
Another player who has returned to training after a knee injury is right-back James Bolton.
The 23-year-old did not require surgery, but was not expected to play today and will be monitored by Town physio Chris Skitt.
“With Bolts, there was quite a bit of concern that he may have had to go down a similar route to Bryn and have an operation, but thankfully that has settled and is not required,” said Hurst.
“He looked fine in training, completed all the session.”
