Shaun Whalley eyes return to winning ways for Shrewsbury Town
Shaun Whalley is determined Shrewsbury Town will not fade away after being edged off the League One top spot.
The Town winger came up trumps with the leveller to extend his side’s unbeaten run in the draw at Plymouth, Shrewsbury’s second consecutive 1-1 draw.
Paul Hurst’s side spent five weeks at the top of League One after beating Wigan in early September, but it was the Latics who edged above Town on goal difference after their 3-0 success against Southend on Saturday.
Whalley, who netted his third goal of the season – and a first from open play – said: “We are where we are because we’ve done really well. We want to continue that. We don’t just want to fade away or whatever.
“We’ll pick ourselves up and try our best for the three points tomorrow.
“We’ve drawn a couple on the bounce now and it’ll be nice to get back to winning ways.”
On his 78th-minute Home Park strike, he added: “I know Nolo (Jon Nolan) can play those great balls between the lines, I made the run and he found me like he usually does, I turned and I put it away.”
Town welcome Bristol Rovers to Montgomery Waters Meadow, with the Gas 13th after six wins and seven defeats this term. Hurst’s bogey side Fleetwood then visit on Saturday, with the Town boss having lost three times against the Cod Army in less than a year.
Whalley returned to the starting XI after a groin niggle kept him out of the team that began against Walsall and is relishing the home double-header.
“There’s a real buzz around the ground at the minute, isn’t there?” He added. “I think everyone can see that and everyone likes coming to the game – you want that on a Saturday and a Tuesday night.
“Hopefully we can pick ourselves up and go again.”
