Paul Hurst 'delighted' to secure FA Cup passage
Paul Hurst was delighted that his homework paid off as Shrewsbury Town put Aldershot Town to the sword in the FA Cup.
His side enjoyed a 5-0 success, courtesy of five different scorers, against the National League visitors - who Hurst had feared tricky opposition when the first-round draw was made.
But the ex-Grimsby chief carried out his homework on the Shots and was encouraged to see his side execute the gameplan.
Alex Rodman, Shaun Whalley, Stefan Payne, Arthur Gnahoua and Carlton Morris netted the goals to see Town into Monday night's second round draw.
The boss said: "I'm delighted with the scoreline, Without wanting to come across too silly about it, I wasn't overly enthused about the way we played.
"We had some good moments and then we were quite clinical. We could've scored a few more, the scoreline might not suggest it but the game - or parts of it - was exactly what I suspected and said.
"I think it's good when we do the analysis and lots of what we've shown, today it was certainly the case with Aldershot having a few good bits of possession, but looking vulnerable at times when we made forward runs towards goal.
"I'm delighted to get through, it can be tricky, some other results I've just seen and some teams' managers won't be happy with what they've witnessed today."
Wingers Whalley and Rodman made it four for the campaign, while Carlton Morris made it six for the season, two behind leading scorer Payne.
"I didn't think about having five different goalscorers," Hurst said. "It's great when you put a substitute on and his first touch is getting a goal.
"He probably could've had another couple after that. It's pleasing.
"Once we got the 3-0 certainly, a big emphasis was on keeping a clean sheet at that point, having the pride and desire to want that - particularly our defenders and for Craig (MacGillivray), - without being worked too much, was outstanding in the work that he did do,
"He can be very pleased with his afternoon's work."
