Shrewsbury Town's Junior Brown working hard to come back from injury stronger
Shrewsbury Town defender Junior Brown is putting in plenty of hours as he aims to come back stronger from cruciate knee ligament damage.
The 28-year-old left-back is out for the rest of the season after picking up the injury in the 1-0 victory against Fleetwood Town last month.
As he awaits an operation, he has been doing regular sessions at the Sundorne Castle training ground – alongside Zak Jules, who recently tore his hamstring while on loan at Chesterfield – with physio Chris Skitt
“We have got a new piece of equipment coming in that him and Zak will be using,” said Salop chief Paul Hurst.
“It just emphasises the point that he certainly will not be forgotten about, he’ll still play a big part.”
Brown is in his third season at the club and had been ever-present this campaign before the injury.
“He is in every day, although there will come a period – once he’s had the operation – that he will be away for a little while,” said Hurst.
“He might get a chance, down the line, to get away for a week or so.
“I was fortunate to never be out for that length of time as a player, but I know people that have.
“When they have got away for that week, it has been just what they needed – to break that cycle up and that envy, jealousy of seeing their team-mates doing what they want to do every day.
“That’s something we will look at and are certainly very open to further down the line.”
Hurst has praised the club’s youngsters for beating Evesham United 3-0 in the FA Youth Cup during the week.
Christos Shelis – who played at left-back for Town during pre-season – featured in the victory.
“It’s great news for them, to win 3-0, doesn’t matter what the opposition is, is a good result,” added Hurst.
“That sets up a game against Crewe in a couple of weeks time.
“Crewe Alexandra are renowned for bringing good young lads through so it should be a good game.
“Christos went and played, Ryan Barnett got on the scoresheet. They are lads who have had a small taste (of first-team action) and in those games they have to be the ones who step up and shine.”
