Arthur Gnahoua told to earn Paul Hurst’s trust with Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst has challenged winger Arthur Gnahoua to earn his trust in the search for more minutes.

The French winger, a summer signing from Kidderminster Harriers, started just his second game in League One on New Year’s Day against Oldham.

“Partly, it’s up to Arthur whether he’ll play more in the second-half of the season,” Hurst said of the 25-year-old, who has scored three times in 14 appearances this season.

“But partly, the other two (wingers) in general have given us what we’re looking for with goals and assists.

“But at times I have felt a little as though they haven’t had the competition there so maybe got away with it once or twice.

“I think we have to remember where Arthur was last season, it’s a big step up for him. There’s no doubting his quality, I think we saw it first-half (against Oldham) I felt for him in the second-half when we didn’t get the ball to him and then the conditions.

Hurst added: “But he’s contributed yet again, he’s got an assist and when he has played, in fairness to him, he’s created or scored, so he can be happy again. Defensively he was OK again in winning my trust at the minute, and that’s hard for him until he gets the minutes out there, but I’m more than happy with his contribution to date. I want him to really push himself and give me that headache of giving him more minutes.”
