Omar Beckles tells Shrewsbury to repeat Hammers display

Omar Beckles believes each of Shrewsbury's remaining 20 league games will be like a cup final as Town aim to continue their push at the summit.

The defender insisted that his side need to match the energy levels put in at the London Stadium on Tuesday as they hunt for a return to winning ways with the visit of Doncaster in League One this weekend.

The giant stopper began the evening against West Ham as part of a three-man central defence before moving to right-back as Paul Hurst shuffled his pack.

And the ex-Accrington man was central to Town's brave display as they stood firm and were resolute right until West Ham's 113th minute winner.

"You're going to see the boys put in a shift like what everyone saw at West Ham," said Beckles.

"Doncaster aren't a team we can take lightly. We only won in the last minute so we're going to have to put in a big shift and prepare right to give it our all.

"We've never really had that doubt (we can keep teams out), to be honest. We've always known we're capable, it's just that everyone else got to witness it.

"The boys have done it time and time again during pre-season. As much as people said 'it's only pre-season' they set a standard by getting the scalp of some really big teams."

Town have fallen to back-to-back defeats for just the second time this season. But Hurst's men still find themselves second in the League One standings and Beckles summed up the confidence in the camp.

He added: "Now it's taking the confidence we already had – and this (West Ham performance) is a bit of a boost – we know what our league is like, it's completely different to playing West Ham.

"We have massive league games to look forward to."
