Dave Edwards is confident top two not out of sight for Shrewsbury Town
Town favourite Dave Edwards believes everything is pointing towards success at Shrewsbury – and has backed his side to challenge to reclaim a top two spot.
Shrews sacrificed their automatic promotion spot in League One for the first time since September 2 yesterday as Doncaster fought back to salvage a point with a 2-2 draw.
But Edwards, who is a big supporter of Paul Hurst and the boss' work across 15 months in Shropshire, believes Town's chances of securing a top two finish this season are not yet over.
The Wales international was at Montgomery Waters Meadow recently for the high-profile FA Cup tie with West Ham and met up with supporters prior to that to sign copies of his new autobiography.
He said: "From last year I am surprised at how well they're doing.
"He took over and their chances of staying up were diminished. He's come in and done an absolutely terrific job.
"I know the Town are so proud of what they're doing and I'm watching with great interest because they're developing such a great team and team spirit – it is all down to Paul Hurst."
The former Gay Meadow midfielder added: "I get down there as often as I can. I went to the West Ham, there's a real good atmosphere at the moment, a new training ground as well, everything's pointing in the right direction.
"I really hope they can hold on to second place, even though they dropped out of it this weekend, I'm sure they can bounce back."
