Paul Hurst happy to see Shrewsbury Town duo hit the net
Paul Hurst has expressed his delight after seeing Shrewsbury strikers Carlton Morris and Stefan Payne end their respective goal droughts.
Morris had gone 15 games without a goal before netting in Saturday’s 2-2 league draw with Doncaster Rovers, while Payne scored just 16 seconds into their 2-1 Checkatrade Trophy quarter final win against Oldham Athletic on Tuesday.
“It’s great. It is one of those funny coincidences that both were struggling to hit the net a little,” said Hurst.
“I look for the performance from the striker. If someone else scores and we’re still winning games, I’m not going to lose sleep.
“I always thought they would come good and score goals, and they’ve both managed to get a goal in recent games.”
Morris – who is on loan from Norwich City – has been leading the line for league games in recent weeks and is expected to do so again as Town head to Portsmouth on Saturday.
He has scored seven goals across all competitions.
Payne – who signed from Barnsley on a permanent basis last summer after impressing during a loan spell last campaign – is their top scorer, with 11 across all competitions.
On the competition between those two, Hurst added: “I think it’s important for them as strikers want to score goals.
“I’m delighted for them, they’re both very good finishers and hopefully they can take confidence from that.”
