Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst is hoping to bring in ‘another couple of bodies’ before the transfer window slams shut.

Salop have made two signings this month, snapping up right-back Luke Hendrie from Burnley and left-back Max Lowe on loan from Derby County.

The transfer deadline is 11pm on Wednesday.

When asked if he would be happy if the window shut now, Hurst said: “I’ve stated all along that I’d like another couple of bodies.

“But, if it was (shutting now), it’s not the end of the world. It’d just mean we haven’t quite as many options as I’d like.

“This squad, with the two additions we’ve made, have shown that they are very capable and have done very well.

“I’d be pleased not to lose anyone, that’s the main thing – we can’t afford to let anyone go and we’re not looking to let anyone leave.

“I’d be relatively happy, but not as happy as I would be if a couple of bodies were added to the squad.”

Hurst has made no bones about his desire to bring in another winger to compete against Shaun Whalley, Alex Rodman and Arthur Gnahoua for a starting spot.

The Town chief, scout Adam Henshall and chief executive Brian Caldwell have been working hard to get deals done but, as of yet, to no avail.

When asked if there any incomings on the immediate horizon, Hurst said: “No. There’s been no phone calls – myself, Adam and Brian – to no effect.

“There’s pretty much a week left. Targets, we’re 90 minutes away from Wembley so that might just tip something in our favour. Who knows?

“In one way, there’s not long left. And in some ways, there’s an eternity.

“I’ll be absolutely delighted when the window shuts.”

Meanwhile, Hurst provided an update on Junior Brown’s recovery from a knee injury.

The 28-year-old left-back limped out of Salop’s 1-0 victory over Fleetwood Town in October and recently had an operation.

“He’s getting on well, but not to the extent where we can add him to the squad – an option for a league game," Hurst added.

“He’s still a big part of it. Most days, he has a smile on his face.

“When he does finally get back, we’ll all be delighted for Junior.

“It’ll be the end of a long road for him.

“I can’t see that he’ll be involved before the end of the season.”
