Seats for the Checkatrade Trophy final against Lincoln went on general sale this week and club officials were hoping to pass the five-figure mark today.

Lincoln expect to take more than 25,000 supporters for the April 8 clash in what will be their first visit to Wembley.

Chief executive Brian Caldwell said: “Ticket sales are close to the 10,000 mark and it’s been great to see people eager to get to Wembley and support the team.

“Paul, his staff and players have given us some great moments over the season and hopefully they will put in another good performance at Wembley.

“Sales have been good through Ticketmaster but if supporters aren’t comfortable buying online then come down the ticket office and the staff will help you buy tickets.”

Meanwhile, defender Mat sadler wants Town fans to “pack the ground” as Paul Hurst’s promotion contenders get ready to host AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Town are second in League One, a point behind leaders Blackburn, with six of their remaining nine league games to be played at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Shrewsbury return home having claimed four points from back-to-back away matches, with last weekend’s victory at Scunthorpe followed by a 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Northampton on Tuesday night.

Sadler now expects another tough game against a Wimbledon side just two points clear of the bottom four.

He said: “It doesn’t get any easier, another team that are down there, they’ll be coming to our place looking to get the three points, as every team does. It will be another real, real battle.

“It’s important between now and then that we come together, as we have done all season as a group, we dust ourselves down after Tuesday and reflect on four points away from home in the last two games.

“We go into what is a really big football game for us now, and one that I think we’re all looking forward to. “Let’s hopefully pack the ground out and I’d be urging as many fans to come down as possible.

It helps us out so much. I urge as many as we can to come.

“I know it’s tough at this time of the season with all the games we’ve had and all the money that people are shelling out, but I would just urge as many fans as possible to come down. It helps us so, so much and we’re hoping to repay them with a win.”
