Match-winner Stefan Payne: Shrewsbury will keep proving them wrong
Match-winner Stefan Payne is happy for table-topping Shrewsbury to carry on sneaking under the radar with just eight games to go in League One.
The striker, recalled to the starting line-up in the league for the first time since New Year's Day, netted his 13th goal of the season in the 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon.
And with Town leaping over Rovers, who did not play during the weekend, into top spot, Payne is happy for everyone to continue focusing on Shrewsbury's higher-profile promotion rivals.
"We just keep asking questions of them," said the 26-year-old. "We don't really get mentioned a lot do we? It's all Blackburn and Wigan but we're still there biting away and asking questions.
"It doesn't really better me. It's better for us because we're proving people wrong day in, day out.
"We don't want to get too carried away. We'll go on to Rochdale and hopefully ask more questions."
Payne, who has netted some memorable winners for Paul Hurst's side this season, added he was impressed with the team ethos in the hard-fought win against an organised Dons outfit.
The forward has had to kick his heels on the bench in recent months as strike partner Carlton Morris has enjoyed playing the lone forward role in Hurst's favoured formation.
But Payne, who struck the winner at Scunthorpe seven days prior, hopes to have taken his chance.
He added: "I've had my chance. I've been on the bench a good few weeks and had to wait for my chance. It's come now and hopefully I've taken it.
"It was a great team performance. Even after we went ahead we didn't look conceding. From Craig (MacGillivray) to me and Carlton up top we were working hard for each other.
"It's a squad game. It's unfortunate Bryn (Morris) got sent off but it's a chance for someone else to come in and take their chance really."
