The 21-year-old, from Newport, made the switch to join the Tigers' under-23 set-up last summer.

He has been a regular for the under-23s as well as being named on the first-team bench for a recent clash with Norwich.

Burton joined Shrewsbury aged 10 and made his way through the club's age groups. He spent loan spells with Nuneaton, Southport and AFC Telford United.

He was sent on loan with Salford City from Hull earlier this season.

After agreeing a one year extension on his initial one-year deal, Burton is targeting progression and a spot in Nigel Adkins' first-team.

“I’m really happy here because I’m at a club that lets you develop and gives you the opportunity to progress. I’ve had the opportunity to play a lot of games with the under-23s and to also be involved in squads with the first team," Burton said. "That has added to the overall experience and been brilliant for me.

“It would be great to get a few league games under my belt next season."
