Nearly 12,000 of a Town persuasion have snapped up tickets for tomorrow’s Checkatrade Trophy final against Lincoln, with pay-on-the-day also available.

Caldwell hopes the Salop faithful make their voices heard as they are set to be outnumbered – the Imps are taking more than 26,000.

“There’s been a lot of work over the past few weeks and we have had a limited time to sell tickets, and get it all in place,” he said. “This is an opportunity to go to Wembley for a national trophy, it’s one we’re all looking forward to.

“What (boss) Paul (Hurst), (assistant) Chris (Doig) and the players have achieved, I don’t think even the most optimistic Shrewsbury fan would have predicted we’d get to a national cup final – and the top three in League One going into the last five games. The players and the management deserve as much support as they can possibly get.

“Shrewsbury fans have got us through a lot of games this season, you have to just look at how many games we’ve won by one goal – the fans have really got us through those difficult times.

“The Shrewsbury fans are patient and get behind the team.

“Although we may be outnumbered by the Lincoln fans, the Shrewsbury fans will get behind the team and back them throughout the full 90 minutes – and maybe even beyond that. That positive encouragement can take pressure off the players.”

He added: “The fans have really got behind the team, got them over the line, and the players have commented on it a number of times.

“They want your backing and to go and win this trophy.”
