Shrewsbury Town confidence is sky high, warns Ben Godfrey
Star midfielder Ben Godfrey has fired out a warning that history-chasing Shrewsbury are packed full of confidence ahead of the League One play-off final.
On-loan Norwich man Godfrey was man of the match in the second-leg win against Charlton on Sunday that sealed Town’s return to Wembley later this month.
The outsiders for play-off success will face either Paul Hurst’s former club Rotherham or Scunthorpe in the final. The pair play their second leg tomorrow with the score 2-2.
But Shrewsbury are determined to create yet more memories after Sunday night’s stunning scenes at Montgomery Waters Meadow.
“We’ve got over that first hurdle but there’s another big one to go yet,” said the 20-year-old fans’ favourite. “We’re really looking forward to it and hopefully getting what everyone deserves.
“We’ve worked hard (to win the semi-finals) and did what we’re good at – we made it difficult for Charlton.
“We’ve got to take that into the final. If we turn up, on our day we’re going to be trouble for any team. Everyone knows that.
“We’re going into the final full of confidence, hopefully to get the win.”
The semi-final ties and the showpiece on May 27 are being billed as some of the biggest games in the club’s history.
And Godfrey argues that the players are using the big occasion to help boost their passion and willingness to succeed.
He added: “It was one of the biggest games in the club’s history but one of the biggest of our careers as well.
“It’s why there is so much passion and desire out there to experience things some of us have never experienced before.
“We give 110 per cent and hopefully we can create some more memories and stories to take to our grave with us.”
Town’s Wembley play-off final tickets go on sale via Ticketmaster at 8am tomorrow.
