The Millers secured their spot as Town’s League One play-off final opponents with a 2-0 win over 10-man Scunthorpe at the New York Stadium tonight, winning 4-2 on aggregate.

Shrewsbury boss Hurst is regarded as a legend with the South Yorkshire club, where he is second on the all-time appearance list having played 494 times.

The clubs will meet at Wembley on Sunday, May 27.

Skipper Richard Wood netted on the stroke of half-time – as he did to down Town at Montgomery Waters Meadow in February – in the Millers’ victory as the Iron were beaten.

Will Vaulks made it 2-0 after the break.

Alongside Town’s home defeat, Hurst’s men secured one of their finest victories of the season in Rotherham, where Stefan Payne scored an added-time winner for 10-man Shrewsbury in a 2-1 win.

Rotherham finished fourth, one place behind Town, in League One. They are managed by Hurst’s former Millers team-mate Paul Warne.
