Shrewsbury Town fans are urged to turn up the noise

Supporters’ Parliament joint chairman Roger Groves has urged Shrewsbury Town fans to embrace the new safe standing section and get behind boss John Askey.

The safe standing section will house 555 supporters in the Salop Leisure South Stand at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

And Groves feels Salop should be loud and proud about the fact they are the first professional club in the country to have it installed in an all-seater stadium.

“At home we have an opportunity to create a real vibrant atmosphere behind the goal and really get behind the team going forward,” he said.

“This season didn’t end as we wanted it to but that’s behind us now. Let’s move forward and let’s look forward. Let’s get The Blue Amber Army going and give the new manager and the players the best opportunity to experience that.”

Town were on the losing end in the League One play-off final and the Checkatrade Trophy final last term.

Groves does not want to focus on what might have been, but trying to help former Macclesfield man Askey deliver another successful campaign.

“We should all look forward to next season, the club is in a great place,” he added.

“We showed last season that we can create a great atmosphere, here at the Montgomery Waters Meadow and away from home as well. Let’s keep that going.”
