Boss John Askey confident Alex Rodman will agree new Shrewsbury Town deal
Boss John Askey is confident that winger Alex Rodman will pen a new Shrewsbury Town deal in the coming days.
The 31-year-old played a key part in Town's League One promotion bid last season but his initial 18-month contract comes to an end this summer.
Former Tamworth and Grimsby wide man Rodman is expected back by Town's boss John Askey as the senior plays return tomorrow for testing – with every member of the squad to return as pre-season officially begins on Wednesday.
Rodman, Paul Hurst's second Town signing, had a clause in his contract to extend his Montgomery Waters Meadow deal in the player's favour.
He made 55 appearances in his first full season with Shrewsbury and scored nine goals from out wide, including the play-off final equaliser at Wembley.
Askey said: "We've made Alex a good offer. I'm eager to get Alex signed. We'll know within the next day or two.
"He's been a good pro and is important to the dressing room so hopefully we can get Alex tied down.
"I'm pretty confident. You never know. I think he's enjoyed it here and he feels comfortable. Hopefully it'll be one we can get over the line."
Meanwhile, Ipswich chief Hurst said there was nothing in a move to bring Jon Nolan and Toto Nsiala with him to Portman Road.
Hurst hinted that his two former signings would be 'guarded' during the summer window.
When asked if there was interest, he responded: “Not really, no.
"I think those players will be closely guarded, shall we say. Whether anything happens for those lads, we’ll see."
