The striker, who turned 29 earlier this month, will extend his spell in Shrewsbury by another year after agreeing a deal offered by former boss Paul Hurst.

New chief John Askey praised John-Lewis' attitude as the ex-Grimsby hitman prepares to sign on the line. John-Lewis made all of his 37 league appearances with Town last season as a substitute.

While winger Arthur Gnahoua has also signed for another year after the club triggered the renewal in his contract.

Askey said: "Lenell was offered a new year by the previous manager which he’s taken up.

“He’s got a great attitude. As I said with previous players he’s got to show what he can do and if he does well then he’ll be in the team.

“I’m sure he’s itching to get going and show what he can do."

Frenchman Gnahoua, 25, scored three times in just 10 starts during his first term with Town. He has also signed for another season.

The wide attacker, signed from Kidderminster last summer, played under Askey at Macclesfield between 2012 and 2015.

“Arthur did quite well for me," added Town's new boss. "He didn’t play as much as he’d have liked but I was keen to keep him but he decided to go to Spain and came back to do well at Kidderminster.

“We’ve probably all seen signs of his ability.”
