The pair were linked with a host of Championship clubs as Town stormed to the League One play-off final last season.

But Shrewsbury insist that there has been no official interest in the Liverpudlian duo so far this summer with no approaches or bids.

Winger Alex Rodman yesterday became the latest to exit Montgomery Waters Meadow this summer – following Abu Ogogo and Junior Brown to Coventry and Craig MacGillivray to Portsmouth.

Askey said: “No we haven’t (received any offers). Not that I’ve heard or been aware of – thankfully not.

“I believe they’ll be here at the start of the season. I’ve not heard anything from agents or other clubs.

“I’d be surprised if they went.”

Askey has so far added three new faces, Fejiri Okenabirhie, Kieran Kennedy and Ryan Haynes and expects things to move swiftly now clubs have returned to pre-season training.

He continued: “It takes time. Teams are just starting to come back to training.

“When football clubs have to start paying wages to players they don’t want, then things start to happen.

“I think in the next week to two we’ll see some movement.”

The summer transfer deadline has been moved forward to Thursday, August 9 for Premier League and EFL clubs. Loan players can still move until the previous deadline of August 31.

Askey is refusing to panic as he plots new additions for his Town squad, including a new winger to replace Rodman.

The former Macclesfield manager says he is used to similar summers and called for patience.

“It is football. With most squads it seems to be changing all the time. It’s something I’m used to. We don’t have to panic,” he said. “We’re not even in July yet. We’ve got to be patient and make sure the people are the right people.”
