Town are making the short trip to the New Bucks Head to take on former Salop defender Gavin Cowan’s charges (7.45pm).

And while he would like to win, Askey insists the ‘bragging rights will always be with Shrewsbury’ as they are in League one while the Bucks play in National League North.

“For Shrewsbury Town now, supporters should be confident enough in where they are in the league compared to where Telford are,” he said.

“I think the bragging rights will always be with Shrewsbury, long may it continue. I think when you’re in League One and the other side is in National League North, you don’t have to worry too much about bragging rights.”

The friendly took place last summer and Telford won 1-0.

It is thought Town will be putting out a youthful XI, while the Bucks will be at full strength.

Askey intends to give new signings Josh Laurent and Charlie Colkett some game time in midfield.

“It’s about getting players minutes, the ones who’ve not featured as much – giving one or two younger ones a chance,” he added.

“We’ll give players such as Josh (Laurent) and Charlie (Colkett) a chance to get some minutes under their belt, which they haven’t had so far.

“Hopefully the players gain confidence, but the main priority is Saturday against Port Vale.

“I’m sure there’ll be a few fans coming to watch as it’s on their doorstep, and that rivalry. It’s another game to look forward to.”
