Salop wrap up their pre-season schedule at Port Vale tomorrow, before kicking off the League One campaign at home against Bradford City a week later.

"It’s the final chance for players to impress the manager for the start of the season," said Filan.

"The lads are so fit which is really pleasing. The work of the strength and conditioning department has been fantastic.

"We are starting to play some of the football we want to play.

"Port Vale is the last friendly before the season and once again it’s an opportunity to say to the manager 'I want to be playing on the first day of the season'."

One who could well be in from the off for the Bradford visit is Fejiri Okenabirhie.

The summer signing from Dagenham & Redbridge has chipped in with four goals in five friendlies over the past couple of weeks.

On how the 22-year-old striker has started in blue and amber, Filan added: "He has done great. He is one of those players. He seems to just pop up where the ball pops up and more often than not it ends up in the back of the net, which is great from a squad point of view.

"We want to get goals from different areas and he is one that has had a good pre-season."
