John Askey pleased with Shrewsbury Town performance despite result
Boss John Askey is focusing on the positives after Shrewsbury Town's 2-1 loss at Charlton Athletic.
The Salop chief feels they performed a lot better than they did in their opening day defeat to Bradford City.
Karlan Grant struck right at the death for the Addicks, after Salop's Lenell John-Lewis had cancelled out Lyle Taylor's opener.
"It was much improved from Bradford. I was pleased with the performance, but obviously not pleased with the result," said Askey.
"The two goals, I think we could've avoided.
"Throughout the game I thought we created chances and, arguably, were the better team on the day.
"But it's about scoring goals. If one of those goes in it's a different game – the game starts to open up and then you create more chances.
"When we got the goal back, to get to 1-1, I thought if any team was going to win it, it would be ourselves.
"We should have never allowed the crosses in for the two goals, but it's a tough place to come."
He added: "Decision-wise, there was a lot of decisions that went against us – it stops your momentum at times, and that was difficult to deal with as well.
"It's a bit frustrating when their centre forward is backing into our centre-half all day and keeps getting the fouls. It had an effect on the game at times. Overall, I was pleased with the performance."
