John Askey admits Shrewsbury Town are a little light at the back
Boss John Askey feels Shrewsbury Town could ‘probably do with a little bit more cover’ in defence.
Salop have made 15 signings this summer and have until the end of the month to bring players in on loan.
When asked if there is any scope for more incomings, Askey said: “I’m happy, it’s probably just in defence that we could probably do with a little bit more cover.
"Everywhere else on the park, I think we’re quite strong.”
Town recently let Luke Hendrie join Grimsby Town on loan, meaning James Bolton is their only natural right-back.
Omar Beckles can play at left-back, but Ryan Haynes is the only out and out left-back at the club.
Salop want to get wingers Abo Eisa and Arthur Gnahoua out on a temporary basis but there is still work to do on that front.
Neither player has featured in a matchday squad this term. Eisa has been linked with a loan to Swindon Town, with other League Two clubs keen.
They have not been able to force their way in due to the form of Alex Gilliead and Shaun Whalley on the flanks.
“We’re looking to try to get one or two out, but there’s nothing in the pipeline,” said Askey.
Meanwhile, Askey insists the effort of his Town charges cannot be faulted – they just need to find a cutting edge in front of goal.
“That’s sometimes how it goes, but the performances are there and you take heart from that,” he added.
“If you are going to places and getting beaten three or four, then you’ve got a problem.
“For a manager, when you’ve got players giving everything they’ve got – you can’t ask for any more than that.
"It’s just that final touch, that final ball. You can do it over and over again in training, but it’s about doing it in the game.
"It’s something we’ve got to look at as the sort of chances we’ve had should be converted, really.
“We opened (Doncaster) up time and time again, playing away from home.
“I can’t really remember them doing that too many times to us.
“When we broke, with the two widemen and two in midfielder, we broke with energy and pace.
“Eventually, we’re going to cause teams a lot of problems. It looks good for us.”
