Abo Eisa making strides on Shrewsbury Town comeback trail
Abo Eisa is nearing a return to fitness and will be an ‘important’ member of Shrewsbury’s squad on his return, says No.2 John Filan.
The former Wealdstone winger sustained the knee ligament damage in an accidental training collision towards the end of August.
Prior to that Town boss John Askey had been looking at sending the winger out on loan to League Two in search of regular football.
The 22-year-old, who joined Town in January on signing his first professional deal, has scored once in five appearances for Salop and caught the eye of supporters with some speedy displays.
“Unfortunately it was just an accidental injury. He got his foot caught and twisted his knee out. It was just one of those things in training,” said Askey’s assistant Filan.
“He’s been great. He’s positive, working hard and wants to get back playing.
“The medical team are really good here, they’ve taken him under their wing. Every time I see him he seems quite buoyant and looking forward to getting back out.
“The other day he got back out on the grass. He’s on the pitch now doing his rehab so that’s good to see. The next step is getting the ball involved and getting back into the squad.”
Filan suggested that the month-long rehabilitation from the injury could act as a steep learning curve in Eisa’s professional career.
The winger, whose older brother Mohamed joined Bristol City in the summer after scoring goals for fun with Cheltenham, only graduated from a degree in biomedical science in the close-season.
Town’s assistant added: “From what I’ve seen of him in pre-season, he has a bit to offer.
“But in your professional career injury is a part of it. Nobody goes their entire professional career not injured.
“So maybe it’s a part of his career at the moment he’s learning about, how to deal with it mentally. Physically he’s been brilliant.”
