Dave Edwards interested in Shrewsbury Town return
Dave Edwards is 'definitely' open to returning to boyhood club Shrewsbury Town – and a move could come as early as next month.
Former Meadow favourite Edwards, 32, is out of contract at Championship side Reading at the end of the campaign.
But he is yet to play this term due to a knee injury picked up in pre-season, and the Royals are believed to be keen to trim their squad in January – potentially opening the door to a reunion with ex-Wolves and Wales team-mate Sam Ricketts.
Edwards, who made more than 100 appearances for Town between 2003 and 2007, told the Totally Football League Show podcast: "A lot of things have to happen but with Shrewsbury, I've made no secret it's a club I would like to play for again.
"I was a huge fan of the club when I was younger. I started to watch them when I was six or seven years old.
"I played for the away supporters team in my teenage years. I never missed a game home or away so it's a club I have a real close affinity to.
"But ultimately they've got to want me and when the time comes I'm available to go.
"They've got a fairly strong midfield at the moment – it's probably the strongest part of their team.
"I do know Sam really well but he has to concentrate on what's best for Shrewsbury and if I fall into that category and it works best for both parties then great. But that happens very rarely, unfortunately.
"It is definitely something I would pursue if the opportunity arose."
Edwards, who has 43 Wales caps and played a part in their run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016, has played 32 times for Reading. He moved to the Madejski Stadium in August 2017 after nine years with Wolves which included Championship and League One title triumphs.
On his situation with the Royals, he added: "The club have come out already with former manager Paul Clement saying they need to reduce the size of the squad and then maybe add some bits of quality.
"With me having six months left on my contract – looking from the outside in – I would seem an obvious one who might be sent out on loan or look to go elsewhere.
"But I still feel I have a lot to offer the club and I am enjoying training at the moment.
"I'll work my hardest to get in the team and come January if I am told otherwise I'll continue to do that."
