Sam Ricketts ready to review Shrewsbury Town loan deals
Boss Sam Ricketts has confirmed not all of Shrewsbury’s four loan players will remain at the club for the entire campaign.
Town snapped up Joel Coleman, Josh Emmanuel, Greg Docherty and Charlie Colkett on season-long loan deals back in the summer.
But while Docherty has proved a revelation since joining on a temporary basis from Rangers, the others have found game time harder to come by.
Goalkeeper Coleman has recently been playing back-up behind Steve Arnold in the pecking order.
Emmanuel began his loan as first-choice right-back, but has recently been battling James Bolton for a starting spot.
And while Colkett has impressed in the Checkatrade Trophy, he has featured just once in League One.
The vast majority of season-long loans have an option for both clubs to review the deal in January.
And Ricketts, who replaced former manager John Askey at the start of December, revealed some of the loan players who aren’t featuring may be moved on.
“Some have recall options,” he said. “They are obviously deals I didn’t do.
“There will be some movement in January whether that is for the club’s benefit or the players’ benefit.”
Meanwhile, the boss has told his players to embrace their hectic schedule.
Salop play their third game in seven days today when they take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. They then have seven matches in January, starting with the New Year’s Day visit of Fleetwood.
“You don’t really get a chance to work with the players on the training ground when it’s this busy,” Ricketts said.
“We ask players to train when they would still be recovering at other times of the season because we need to prepare.
“We’re in a relentless three weeks. But that’s fine, we’ve got more than enough players to cope. And you have to relish the games – the games are the best bit about football.”
