The midfielder, 22, has not played League One football for Shrewsbury since the opening day defeat to Bradford.

He only made six appearances in total after being brought in, initially until the end of the season, by former boss John Askey.

Colkett previously had loan deals at Bristol Rovers, Swindon and Vitesse Arnhem.

He was one of four loan players at Shrewsbury, along with goalkeeper Joel Coleman, right-back Josh Emmanuel and midfielder Greg Docherty.

Only Docherty has commanded a regular first-team position, while others are expected to follow Colkett back to their parent clubs.

Boss Sam Ricketts said: "Chelsea wanted to recall him. He came to play and unfortunately hasn't played as much as everyone would've liked.

"He's gone. He's a great lad with undoubted ability. I really liked him as a person and his footballing ability is excellent as well.

"Hopefully in the future it works wherever he goes next."
