Shrewsbury Town interested in Wrexham midfielder Brad Walker
Shrewsbury Town are believed to be interested in signing on-loan Wrexham midfielder Brad Walker.
The 23-year-old Crewe player has caught the eye this season while with the National League side previously managed by Sam Ricketts.
Walker is a powerful, box-to-box midfielder who has plenty of Football League experience under his belt having played more than 100 games for Hartlepool in League Two.
He joined the Railwaymen on a two-year deal in the summer of 2017. It is believed Ricketts is an admirer of the midfielder, who has netted four goals in 20 appearances this term.
Walker also made a trial appearance for Wolves against Aston Villa in 2016.
Town are interested in bolstering their midfield ranks during the January transfer window with the pursuit of Shrewsbury favourite Dave Edwards, of Championship strugglers Reading, also on their agenda.
As well as midfield, it is understood Town are keen on bringing in a goalkeeper, left-back and a centre-forward.
Wolves goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne, from Ludlow, watched Salop at home to Fleetwood on New Year’s Day and is thought to be a target.
Ricketts wants a natural left-back through the door at Montgomery Waters Meadow and a striker who can share the weight of goals with Fejiri Okenabirhie.
The Town boss would also look at options in wide areas and central defence but only predicted ‘a handful’ of incomings when asked.
It is believed Shrews will be much busier sorting moves away from the Meadow as Ricketts continues to trim his squad.
Loanee Charlie Colkett has already returned to Chelsea and forgotten defender Zak Jules yesterday had his contract cancelled.
Goalkeeper Joel Coleman and full-back Josh Emmanuel, on loan from Huddersfield and Ipswich respectively, are also expected to return to their parent clubs.
