Shrewsbury Town closing in on Dave Edwards return as midfielder nears Reading exit
Dave Edwards is nearing a fairytale return to Shrewsbury Town as he looks set to quit current club Reading.
The Shropshire Star understands negotiations to cancel the former Wales international's contract at the Madejski Stadium are on the verge of being completed.
That would pave the way for Edwards to rejoin the club he supports, 12 years after he left for Luton Town.
It has been reported that Edwards, along with four other Reading players, were made surplus to requirements by new boss Jose Gomes.
Edwards, 32, has made no secret of his desire to return to Shrewsbury - where he rose through the ranks - before he retires from playing.
The Pontesbury-born box-to-box midfielder, whose family live locally, earned 43 Welsh caps.
He is a former international and club team-mate of Town boss Sam Ricketts, who has said there is 'always a chance' Edwards would return, although wages could prove a stumbling block.
But it is understood the former Wolves midfielder is desperate to return to Town and a move is expected to be completed this week.
Edwards has overcome a medial knee ligament injury but has not played any Championship football for the Royals this season.
