The midfielder rejoins Town 12 years on from his last appearance in blue and amber, which came in 2007 at the end of spell that saw him make 137 appearances.

Edwards, 32, made no secret of his desire to return to Shrewsbury - where he rose through the ranks - before he retires from playing.

He is a former Wales international and club team-mate of Town boss Sam Ricketts, who said there was 'always a chance' Edwards would return.

The Pontesbury-born box-to-box midfielder, whose family live locally, earned 43 Welsh caps during his 10-year international career.

Edwards overcome a medial knee ligament injury but did not play any Championship football during his time with Reading this season.

The deal will see him at Montgomery Waters Meadow until 2021.
