Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty is focused on staying with Shrewsbury Town
On-loan midfielder Greg Docherty has stressed he is not thinking about cutting short his stint at Shrewsbury Town.
The Scot, who was central to Town’s heroic FA Cup turnaround at Stoke, has been linked with moves higher up the English pyramid from parent club Rangers.
But the 22-year-old insists he is concentrating on a busy period for Shrewsbury, for whom he has already played 30 games this season, scoring seven goals.
Docherty was sent south of the border by Steven Gerrard to experience regular game time and the Ibrox club are said to be pleased with his development, while Town chief Sam Ricketts thinks Montgomery Waters Meadow is the best place for the midfielder to progress.
“I don’t read into that,” Docherty said of speculation linking him with Championship clubs.
“If there’s talk then there’s talk, but I know that until people come to me with concrete things that I don’t listen to it.
“To be honest it’s not in my mind at the moment.
“There’s so many games to concentrate on down here there’s no point looking that far ahead.
“I’m looking forward to Blackpool now, that’s my next challenge and then take it from there, giving 100 per cent to get three points.”
Last season’s play-off winners Rotherham and Hull have both been said to have interest in Docherty.
Gerrard’s Gers No.2 Gary McAllister was at the Meadow last week to keep tabs on Docherty.
But the midfielder’s afternoon lasted less than an hour as he was substituted for Alex Gilliead.
Alongside his Salop team-mates, Docherty was pictured and videoed celebrating wildly as Town completed a memorable comeback in the Potters on Tuesday.
“Yes, of course (I’m loving it),” he continued. “It’s all about playing football and winning games, that’s the main thing. We’ve got to just keep doing that.
I think it was great little old Shrewsbury went to Stoke and got a result.”
Meanwhile, AFC Fylde boss Dave Challinor has revealed they have failed in an attempt to keep hold of forward Arthur Gnahoua.
“His loan is obviously up and, although we’ve tried to extend it, I think Shrewsbury are more keen on trying to sell him,” he said.
