Midfielder Ollie Norburn has urged fans to back boss Sam Ricketts as Shrewsbury continue their battle to stay in League One.

The 26-year-old was Town’s hero on Saturday when he netted a 93rd-minute penalty to earn his side a 2-1 victory over Wycombe.

But while fans left Montgomery Waters Meadow delighted with the points last weekend, they also made their frustrations clear as Shrewsbury struggled to break down The Chairboys.

Manager Ricketts took the brunt of the criticism with supporters surprised by his decision to start Greg Docherty on the subs bench. But with the team still in the thick of a relegation scrap, Norburn says it’s imperative everyone of a Shrewsbury persuasion sticks together.

“We went a goal down against Wycombe and it seemed a bit bleak,” the former Tranmere man said.

“The fans were voicing their opinion. But that isn’t going to help us as players and as a team.

“They are good fans here but we need them to get behind us. We need them to help give us a boost, help us keep going.

“We kept going against Wycombe because we are all fighting for each other.

“But that extra boost from the fans would help. Lets get behind the boys, behind the manager and keep fighting.”
