Saturday’s 2-0 home reverse to Portsmouth, a third Town defeat in four, was balanced by Sam Ricketts’ side putting in an, at times, impressive display.

Experienced left-sided defender Golbourne, 31, felt the performance was the first time he had seen what his new team-mates were capable of.

Boss Ricketts wants his players to replicate what they did well against high-flying Pompey as Salop go into crunch relegation clashes against managerless rivals Southend and Scunthorpe.

Golbourne, who many fans felt had his best game since arriving in January, said: “I’ve definitely seen enough (to survive), there’s more than enough.

“I think against Portsmouth, especially in the first half, was the first time I’ve really seen what we are capable of.

“You see it a lot in training but a matchday is when it counts. We are able to move the ball, open teams up and create chances, play at at a high tempo.

“We’re a fit group of lads, everybody can press, everybody can run. I think we’ve got more than enough.

“I’ve seen and been in teams that have survived many times and this is definitely a squad with a togetherness required to get us over the line.”

The former Bristol City and Wolves defender played alongside Town boss Ricketts at Molineux. He joined on a free transfer in January.

Golbourne, who is playing left wing-back, continued: “We’ve shown and proved we’re capable of performing.

“It shows that between the division there’s not really a lot in it. We played probably one of the better teams and it’s marginal.

“The difference is they maybe had a bit of luck but have been clinical for two goals and that’s enough.

“It’s tight and it makes for an exciting seven games.”
