Overwhelmed Shrewsbury matchwinner Ryan Giles stunned by league debut
Matchwinner Ryan Giles admits it could take days to appreciate his stunning Shrewsbury winner against Portsmouth.
The 19-year-old lit up Montgomery Waters Meadow and downed Pompey with a second-half 30-yard rocket as Sam Ricketts’ men won 1-0 on the opening day.
The teenager from Telford, signed on a season-long loan from Wolves, revealed he will remember his first senior goal for the remainder of his career.
“I don’t think I could’ve hit it any better,” Giles said. “I think it’ll take a few days to sink in to be honest. I could watch it over and over.
“I don’t think I’ll ever score another goal like that. It’s a day to remember.
“The three points were the most important thing. To top it off with a goal or assist would be overwhelming and to do it the way I have – I’d have never imagined that.”
