Shrewsbury Town await guidance from government
Shrewsbury Town are still awaiting guidance from the government on a possible return to training and playing.
Footballers playing in League One and League Two have reportedly been told the chances of the current season ever finishing are fading.
The primary focus of the EFL remains to conclude the 2019/20 campaign, EFL chiefs yesterday told the Shropshire Star.
And Town chief executive Brian Caldwell, who was part of yesterday’s League One and EFL conference call, reiterated the league’s desire to finish the season where possible.
The EFL are expecting guidelines from the government to notify all sports as to when and how they can make a safe return.
But there is concern at what standards would need to be met for the leagues to resume with testing at the heart of the issue.
A high number of coronavirus tests would be required for players to conclude the season.
And EFL clubs and board members are worried how it would look carrying out such large scale testing at a time when there are not enough for key workers.
