AFC Telford and National League clubs given month to vote on season outcome
AFC Telford United and their fellow National League clubs have been given a month to vote on the outcome of the current season.
The Bucks must decide whether to resume their campaign, or declare it null and void – with 28 days being given for votes to be returned.
Clubs must first vote on whether or not they should group the higher-tier National League Premier – in which Wrexham play – with non-league’s second tier, National League North and South, in a single vote or decide each tier’s fate separately.
They are then asked whether or not to continue playing, or call the season off and suspend promotion and relegation.
If the vote is decided on a tier-by-tier basis, at least 22 of the 43 clubs in National League North and South would need to agree for the season to be brought to a premature conclusion.
The National League North and South campaign is in the middle of a two-week suspension – though no information was forthcoming from the league about whether they would resume in the meantime, or if the National Premier season would be halted until the decision.
Clubs reached this point over a dispute in funding for the remainder of the campaign.
Telford and many other agreed to start the season on the basis funding would be provided as grants – though it has now transpired only loans will be offered.
Unless there is a sudden change in funding options, it is expected National League North and South will be curtailed – while the Premier could also follow suit.
Wrexham have travelled to Eastleigh for their latest fixture in non-league’s top flight tonight, having signed two players on transfer deadline day yesterday.
