David Davis insists Shrewsbury Town do not want to take the final seven games lightly

Midfielder David Davis insists Shrewsbury will not look to take their foot off the peddle having chalked up 50 points in League One.

Davis, who signed a six-month deal at Town in January, returned to the side for Tuesday's heavy 4-1 defeat at Oxford.

Town, who brought up the 50-point milestone with Saturday's point at Gillingham, are 10 points clear of the drop zone with seven games to play.

The former Birmingham favourite stressed he is not content just to tick off the final seven games between now and May 9, but instead wants to help Steve Cotterill's side secure more standout results.

"We're not thinking 'oh we've got to 50 points, great' – we're thinking 'let's going and win these seven games'. We tried to win on Tuesday, obviously it didn't happen, but we are trying to win," said Davis, 30.

"I want to play as many games as possible but I also want to win, I want to contribute to winning games.

"That's as an important thing for me, as much as playing is."

Salop responded to a disappointing defeat at Northampton on Good Friday with excellent displays against Plymouth and Gillingham, from which they took four points and recorded two clean sheets.

But Cotterill's men suffered a heavy setback at Oxford

Davis added: "I wasn't in the team personally but we'd kept two clean sheets before this and we're all disappointed with the goals, we'll look to put it right on Saturday.

"I'm always happy to contribute but am just disappointed with the scoreline, I can play as many minutes as I want but I want three points to get us up the table.

"We're looking to get as many points as possible, we go into every game to win. We want to finish these seven games strong."

Assistant boss Aaron Wilbraham, meanwhile, has called for the side to show a response from the Kassam Stadium defeat.

Wilbraham and Cotterill felt the 4-1 scoreline flattered Oxford on Tuesday, but Town have been challenged to show a positive reaction against Doncaster.

"We always want to bounce back, when you lose a game you always want a reaction in the next game and our lads have been good at that," he said.

"That is something we're looking to do on Saturday."
